Loan Stories
During the year we aim to bring you stories about one of our loan horses, ponies or donkeys and the people involved. We hope you enjoy seeing not only how happy our equines are once they loaned out but also how happy the new "carers" are!
APACHE
Apache was rescued from Tombland horse sales in 1985 and he was believed to be 2-3 years old. He was in a very poor condition and was taken to the Horse Rescue Fund where he was cared for and brought back into a good condition. He was also gelded and had his education started at English Cottage.
Apache is one of our more famous horses as he was one of the "Famous Four" featured in Horse and Pony magazine along with Aladdin, Holly and Spring, sadly Apache is the only one still alive. This article had a follow up in recent years. He also featured in a TV programme called "We Shoot Horses - Don't We" in March 1986.
In his first home he took part in Pony Club activities, dressage, show jumping and did some cross country events. A real all rounder, he was also shown in the Cob class at the Royal Norfolk Show in 1988. He was finally outgrown and needed to find a new home.
Apache went to his current home in 1993 and he has been there ever since. His new rider was called Charlotte and he again carried on his competitve career forming a very good partnership with Charlotte. He is now retired and lives with his companion, a lovely Thoroughbred mare and is looked after by Jan and Tony (Charlotte's parents). He really is a horse that has paid everyone back for saving him all those years ago. A wonderful Cob, the sort we do not have the privilage of owning very often.
